The School of Evangelism offers two theology classes aimed at helping us understand the biblical foundations for evangelism, the content of the gospel that we are to proclaim, and the particular biblical themes that resonate with postmoderns and other emerging generations.
The first is called WHAT IS THE GOSPEL? We offered this class in January with 11 students, but we believe it to be so essential that it will be offered this summer – on a Friday, August 10, 2012. We are finalizing its location but the class will be held in the Mechanicsburg area.
The second is called SHARING JESUS WITH EMERGING GENERATIONS. It will be held Saturday, August 11, 2012. We are also finalizing this location but plan to offer in Cumberland County.
Both classes are taught by the School’s Director, Dr. Steve Dunn. They meet from 8:30 am-3:30 pm. The cost of each course is $25 but we will offer the two together for $40. There are texts available for each class (which requires some advance reading) at a reduced costs of $10 each. If either class is your first class with us, it is FREE. (If you take both classes there is only a $25 charge for both).
One of the four core values of the Eastern Regional Conference is evangelism. The Commission has established this school and offers in-depth training because we believe it is critical to the accomplishment of this core value and its objectives. It is troubling to me how few of our pastors (many of whom have had no seminary training in either evangelism or discipleship) avail themselves of this unique training, offered by no other denominational group in our region. Lately we have had more lay persons make the sacrifice of time to be a part of the school. In a time when so many of our churches are declining and our reported conversions per church in the single digits annually, this oversight is unconscionable. PLEASE CONSIDER BEING A PART OF THE SCHOOL AND ITS OFFERINGS. Bring lay partners. You will not be disappointed.
